14 Dead in Jilin Flooding, Including Deputy Mayor

Continuous heavy rainfall in the past few days has caused flooding in multiple towns in Shulan, Jilin Province, submerging several villages and damaging bridges and roads.

According to CGTN, as of 10pm on August 6, severe rainfall in Jilin Province has resulted in 14 fatalities, with one person still missing. Among the deceased is the Deputy Mayor of Shulan.

Currently, water levels in various reservoirs and major rivers in Northeast China are beginning to recede and remain at safe operating levels.

Affected cities and regions in Jilin and Heilongjiang Province are accelerating efforts to restore the production and living order of the population.

The China Meteorological Administration announced the end of the current round of heavy rainfall in Northeast China at 10.40am on August 6.

However, local governments remind the public to remain cautious about geological disasters such as landslides and mudslides. 

People are advised to avoid visiting mountainous areas and other disaster-prone regions in the short term.
